Funeral service for Vivian Grace Otto, 80, of Sioux Falls, SD formerly Aberdeen, will be 10:30am Saturday, July 24, 2010 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. Pastor Hyle Anderson will be officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be 4-7pm Friday, July 23, 2010 at the mortuary and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Friends may sign her online guest book at the bottom of the page.

Vivian passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Vivian Grace Kruger was born June 14, 1930 to Martin and Laura (Schmidt) Kruger in Dumont, MN. She was raised in Wheaton, MN and graduated from Wheaton High School 1948. She also attended Moorhead State University where she earned a Teaching Certificate in 1950.

After teaching First Grade for one year in Goodrich, MN, she married her college sweetheart, Eugene Otto on June 10, 1951 in Wheaton, MN. They lived two years near Camp Rucker, Alabama while Eugene was in the Army. They moved to Rapid City, SD and lived there from 1952 to 1968. They moved to Aberdeen in 1968 and Vivian taught 5th Grade at Lincoln Elementary School in Aberdeen. She was a dedicated teacher and enjoyed children. She retired from teaching in 1989 after twenty-two years of teaching. They moved to Sioux Falls in 2009.

Vivian loved people and served the community in many ways. She was a charter member of the Aberdeen Lioness Club. She will be remembered for her strong dedication to family and friends. Her gentle spirit and lovingkindness will be greatly missed.

She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aberdeen and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She had a strong faith and believed in the power of Christ through prayer. She was the prayer chain leader and she took prayer request for over fifteen years. She believed that "Christians never see the last of each other!" She enjoyed sewing and also served with the LWML quilters. She was a member of NSU Faculty Wives' Club and enjoyed going to NSU Basketball games. She was also a volunteer at the nursing homes and Dakota Prairie Museum.

Vivian is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Eugene Otto of Sioux Falls, one daughter, Jan (Don) Bridge of Chino Hills, CA, two sons, Marty Otto of Sprague River, OR and David (Rayla) Otto of Renner, SD, five grandchildren, Lisa (Mike) Silviera of Lobelville, TN, Steven Bridge of Peoria, IL, Melanie Bridge of Chino Hills, CA, Ryan Otto and Nicholas Otto both of Renner, SD, two great grandchildren, Elijah Silviera and Isabel Silviera of Lobelville, TN and one sister, Bonita Iverson (George) McDonald of Langdon, ND/Mesa, AZ


Vivian was preceded in death by her parents.
