Born June 6, 1938 in Elko, NV to mother, Adelia LaPray, and father, Thurman Bud Cope. His brother, Richard Cope, was also born in Elko. They later divorced. Adelia met and married Frank Camilo Profaizer; they had four more sons and one daughter. Gary and his brothers spent their childhoods in Hooper, UT, Weston, ID, Superior, WY, and West Ogden, UT.
Gary attended Weber High School. He joined the Navy and served four years active duty and thirty-three years active reserves. He attended Weber State College and received a Mechanical Engineering Degree.
During his working career, he worked for Jet Way, Nordic Valley Ski Area, Trane Co, National Semiconductor and for over twenty years at the VA Medical Center, Salt Lake City, UT. Favorite activities were fishing and boating, snow and water skiing, and hunting. He enjoyed racing cars, four wheel drive camping and truck pulling. Gary was a member and past President of Utah Truck and Tractor Pullers, now United Truck and Tractor Pullers. He won numerous awards during his time competing.
Preceded in death by son, Gary Michael Cope; sister, Patricia Adelia Profaizer; mother, Adelia Profaizer.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 11, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in the Utah Veteran's Memorial Park Chapel, 17111 South Redwood Road.
Burial will follow in the Weston Cemetery, Weston, Idaho, where full military honors will be accorded by the Idaho Honor Guard.
