Rebecca J. Haner was born November 18, 1835, at St. Catherine, Canada. At an early age she went with her parents to Detroit, Michigan, where her early school days were spent, afterwards finishing at Ann Arbor.
She began teaching while very young at one time among the freedmen at Louisville Kentucky.
She came to Hamilton, Minnesota, about forty years ago, making her home with her sister, Mrs. Hattie Brooks, with the exception of a few years at different times spent in California, Texas and North Dakota.
She was a devoted Christian at all times and when her health permitted a church and Sunday School worker. A rarely wonderful woman. A true friend and advisor. Having had very poor health for a number of years, she longed for the Better Country, which longing was satisfied December 28, 1920.
She was laid at rest in the Hamilton cemetery beside her father and sister gone before. She leaves behind two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Brooks of Racine, and Mrs. Flora Tilden, of Oregon; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
