The Servant of God, Monsignor Ángel Riesco Carbajo, was born on July 9, 1902, in Bercianos de Vidriales, Zamora, Spain. Being a boy, he experienced emigration in Argentina. Of those years he kept in his memory a sentence in the façade of the school which he attended: "What more is worth in this world is to be good".

Ordained to the priesthood at the Major Seminary of Astorga on July 25, 1926, at 24 years of age, he was successively named coadjutor and trustee of La Bañeza, where he performed an "exclusive dedication", in delivering the catechesis, caring the poor and sick, being active in the apostolic movements, above all the Catholic Action, and promoting the spiritual life.

Vicar general of the Diocese of Astorga, in 1957, he founded the Apostolic Institute of the Missionaries of the Charity. The Papal approval of the Institute was granted August 15, 1982. The institute would later extend also to Argentina, Mexico and Peru.

At 55 years of age, Riesco Carbajo was appointed Auxiliary of the Archdiocese of Pamplona-Tudela, by Pope Pius XII, receiving his episcopal consecration with the Titular See of Limisa, from Archbishop Ildebrando Antoniutti, assisted by Bishops José Castelltort Subeyre and Angel Hidalgo Ibáñez.

After ten years of hard work and personal sacrifice, through which he always maintained a happy spirit, he presented his resignation on November 23, 1969, moving to La Bañeza to dedicate his remaining years to the Institute of Missionaries which he founded.

D. Ángel passed away on July 2, 1972, aged 70. His funeral saw the participation of many. His body lies interred inside the church of Santa María de La Bañeza.

On October 12, 1995, liturgical feast day of the Virgen del Pilar, at La Bañeza, the canonization process for Bishop Riesco Carbajo was opened. It was officially concluded on May 1, 1997, the XL anniversary of foundation of the Institute of the Apostolic Missionaries of the Charity.
