Helen Marie (Berens) Hunter was born May 1, 1912, to William and Mary (Weber) Berens in Boyer Township. She attended country school near Dunlap.
In March of 1932 Helen married William Baldwin. The couple was blessed with two sons, Fritz and Roger. On May 9, 1951, Helen married Harold Hunter. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Karen, and a son, Randy. Karen died in infancy. Helen operated the Hollywood Ice Cream Store and cooked at the Boyer Valley School for many years. Harold died on May 8, 1989.
Helen was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She enjoyed making afghans and quilts and sharing these items with her family.
Helen died on Wednesday, October 12, 2005, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center attaining the age of 93 years, five months, and 11 days.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; daughter, Karen; and two brothers, Bernard and Leo Berens.
She is survived by her three sons, Fritz Baldwin and his wife Mary Alice of Dunlap, Iowa, Roger Baldwin and his wife Bobbie Baldwin of Tucson, Ariz., Randy Hunter of Tampa, Fla.; sister-in-law, Ramona Berens of Arnolds Park, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister Margaret Carmichael of Dunlap, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap, Iowa Saturday, October 15, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Carla Ingebretsen officiating.
Musicians were Ruth Owens and Jerry Baldwin. Music selection was "On Eagles Wings." Congregations hymns included "Amazing Grace" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus."
Honorary pallbearers were Kristen Ungrad, Leah Baldwin, Ann Baldwin, Luke Baldwin, Nicholas Baldwin, Megan Baldwin, Aubrey Baldwin, Lexi Baldwin, Austin Baldwin, Matthew Baldwin, Jared Baldwin.
Pallbearers were Jerry Baldwin, Larry Baldwin, Bill Baldwin, Ty Ungrad, Jess Baldwin, John Ungrad, Roger Baldwin, James Baldwin, Vicki Baldwin, Pam Ungrad, Jeremy Vanarsdol. Final resting place is Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa. Fouts Funeral Home of Dunlap was in charge of arrangements.
