On Nov 10th, Mrs. William Holliday, one of the early pioneers of this section, died at the home of her son, Almond A. Holliday at Clear Lake, Polk County, at the advanced age of ninety-five years and seven months. The body was brought to this city on Thursday and taken to the Pfeffer undertaking parlors were it was kept until Friday and then taken to the home of her son-in-law, William Goode at Hayton. On Saturday afternoon the funeral was held from the Goode home where old neighbors and friends paid the last earthly tribute of respect to the departed one. Rev. A. E. Pflaum of St Boniface Episcopal church of this city had charge of the funeral service and interment was made in the family lot in the Hayton cemetery.
Betsy M. Eastwood was born in New York State, April 13, 1826. She moved with her parents to the Thousand Islands and was married there to William Holliday. In the fall of 1850 they moved to Wisconsin, located on a farm near Hayton, town of Charlestown, this county where they lived until the death of her husband in 1892, shortly after which she moved to Polk county. She was held in the highest respect by her neighbors and friends. Kind hearted, neighborly and generous, she made and retained friends. She was the mother of nine children, seven sons, and two daughters, five of whom survive her, Alonzo of Star Prairie, Mrs. William Goode of Hayton, John L. of Amery, William of Clam Falls and Almond of Clear Lake. She is also survived by nineteen grand children and twenty great grandchildren.
