A requiem mass was solemnized Monday morning, December 15th, at Florian’s Church of the Assumption, for Ignacy A. Zakrzewski, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ignacy Zakrzewski Sr. The Rev. Father Wisniewski, pastor [of] the church, was assisted by Rev. Father Leutticke of Stephen and Rev. Father Roseau of Argyle in the 9:30 o’clock service. Interment was in the Assumption church cemetery. Pall bearers were Ray Borowicz, Lambert Gratzek, Frank Krolak, Albert Kuznia, Alphonse Kuznia and Andrew Rominski.

Mr. Zakrzewski’s sudden death on Thursday, December 11th was due to coronary thrombosis. He and his son had been engaged in moving a heavy cement mixer when the former collapsed. Time of death was 6:30 P.M. He was 46 years, 4 months and 3 days old at the time of his passing.

Ignacy A. Zakrzewski was born on August 8th, 1906 near Warren. In 1910 he moved with his parents to Florian, where he had lived until the present time. He attended the Florian public school for two years. He married Miss Constance Kuznia in 1934, and to this union two children were born. He was engaged in carpentering and trucking. During his years of Florian residence, he served as secretary of the Florian Telephone Company for a number of years, was treasurer of the Florian school district, assessor for the township of Wright, a member of the Florian P. N.A. organization, and the successful manager of the Florian Community Hall. On April 22, 1951, he was initiated into Bishop Corbett’s Council of the Knights of Columbus. On Sunday evening the Knights of Columbus Brothers, their families and friends, filled the Church of the Assumption for a rosary and prayer meet for their late Brother.

Surviving Mr. Zakrzewski are his wife and two children, Virginia and Roger, at home; two brothers, Zigmond of Florian and Clarence of Minneapolis; three sisters, Marie (Mrs. Joseph Fehn) of Maple Plain, Theresa (Mrs. John Bennett) of St. Paul, and Valerie of Minneapolis; and other more distant relatives.

Out of town relatives attending the requiem rites included: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fehn and family; Maple Plain; Mrs. John Bennett and children, of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Zakrzewski and Miss Valerie Zakrzewski of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. John F. Kuznia of Arlington; and Lawrence Zakrzewski of Grand Forks.

Mr. Zakrzewski’s sudden death came as a severe shock to members of his family and to friends throughout the Stephen area. He was so active, so interested in the welfare of his community that his absence will be keenly felt.--Stephen Messenger.
