Son of George DeMent and Rhoda Wells

Married 1: Margaret "Maggie" Dillon
Married 2: Mary Ann Curtis

" John served in the Civil War enlisting in Company G of the 4th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry on Sept 24, 1861 at a ripe old age of 17. He was mustered out upon the end of his service (he had enlisted for 3 years) on Oct 20, 1864.

This is what I know about John. I show that he was taken prisoner when the 4th captured the city of Nashville, TN on May 8, 1862 and was sent to Salisbury, NC POW Camp. He was either paroled or exchanged (we don't know which) in May, 1862 arriving by the steamer "Guide" in NY on June 9, 1862. We do not show him being wounded or captured at any other time. He would have participated in the battles of Stones River, TN (Dec 31, 1862 - Jan 2, 1863) Chickamauga, GA (Sept 20, 1863) and various battle around Atlanta in 1864."
