Buried orginally in Underwood Cemetery (later known as Hunnicutt's Mustergrounds); was moved here in 1973.
Sarah Sally Thornton was the daughter of Thomas Thornton II and Joanna his wife. Although the Thornton family were originally from Duplin County, North Carolina, without ever having moved, the creation of new counties placed them in Johnston County and Sampson County, North Carolina. When Thomas II died, in his will he left 1/5 of his livestock to daughter, Sally Underwood.
