Hubert was educated at the U S Naval Academy where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1905. From 1907-08 he served as a draftsman in his father's architectural firm, alongside his brother, Daniel, Jr, continuing as architect until his father's death in 1911. His brother and he started Graham Burnham and Co. in 1912 and in 1917 worked together as Burnham Brothers Inc, before incorporating as Burnham and Hammond in 1926.

Hubert served in WWI and was in charge of construction of naval bases in France.

He was a member of the Chicago Arts Club, the Architects Club of Chicago, and was a member of the Board of Architects, Century of Progress Exp, 1929-1934.
