LT. CLINE KILLED IN LATIN AMERICA
Local Boy Was Reported Missing In Action January 31

First Lieut. Stewart P. Cline, Jr., 23, was killed in a plane crash in the Latin America area on January 31, the Adjutant General has notified his mother, Mrs. Elsie E. Cline, 141 West Franklin street.

The local boy, who was a pilot on a Liberator bomber, had previously been reported missing in action as of that date. his body was recovered, the Adjutant General's letter said.

A 1936 graduate of Williamsport high school, Stewart enlisted in the Army in June of that year, and received his basic training at Langley Field, Va. After several months he applied for aviation cadet training, was accepted, and later received his pilot's "wings". He was sent overseas fifteen months ago.

In November, 1943, he spent four days at home, proudly displaying the air medal with three oak leaf clusters that he received shortly before his leave.

Besides his mother, he is survived by three sisters, Imogene and Louise, Hagerstown, and Mrs. Andrew Clinton, Dallas Texas; father, S. P. Cline, of Martinsburg, W. Va., grandmother, Mrs. S. S. Cline, this city, and grandfather, W. E. Oates.
