Robert Harvey Woolworth was born to parents James"Harvey"Woolworth and Dorothy Lloyd in Arena, WI. His parents came to Hungerford township in 1874 where he as a boy grew up with his three brothers and four sisters. He ran with the indians along the banks of the Floyd river and the creek that ran near thier home in James. They taught him to make bows and arrows.

He married Gertrude(Gertie) Elizabeth Potts on Sept 8, in 1877, they had their first child Mabel Dorothy on Mar 21, 1899. When Mabel was only six months old her mother passed away of consumption(T.B.)

He then met Laura Givens and was engaged when she fell ill and died just before they were to be wed. She was buried on or near the day they were to be wed. (Feb 1901)

He then met, at a barn dance, Leslie McGilvra Ball. They were married on June 5, 1901 and the rest is history. They raised a large family, all were born on the farm in James, IA. While the children were growing up, he would hold barn dances and all would come from miles around. A lot of marriages resulted out of that meeting place. He would have an annual 4th of July picnic, a family reunion at his farm and all of his children would attend and some would come from different states. This included his brother and sisters also with their children and grandchildren.
He would always buy a big container of ice cream which was one of the highlights of the picnic. That was a novelty for those days, the early 1900s
He was a proud father and grandfather and was always loving.
Him and his wife retired from their farm in early 1940s to a home in Leeds on 41st street, next door to their son Lee. In Aug of 1952 as he was leaving his home he suddenly had a heard attack and died. He lived a full and happy life. At the time of his death he had about 44 grandchildrn and many great grandchildren.
