Hettie Hodson-Rehm - Hettie Frances Rehm was born in Peoria, Ill. March 7, 1866. She moved with her family to Hutchinson, Kansas, at the age of 10 years.
In 1884 she was united in marriage to William Hodson , and to this union four children were born: George of Delavan, Morris Co., KS, USA, Mrs. Bertha Styrunk of Lissie, Texas, Marvin of Herrington, Kansas, and Mrs. Mary Strugis of Olathe, Kansas.
A nephew, Harold Siegrist, of Delavan, and two nieces, Mrs. Bertha Cockey and Mrs. Lida Miller, of Hutchinson, were also brought up in the Hodson home.
Early in life she confessed her faith in Christ and became affiliated with the Methodist Church in Hutchinson, KS. In 1906 she moved with her family to Morris County to farm southwest of Delavan, where she resided for about thirty years. She was preceded in death by her husband who departed this life in January, 1928.
Five years ago she was married to Frank Rehm. She then went to Salina to make her home with Mr. Rehm, his daughter, Mrs. Aline Spellman, and her daughter, Nadine.
Regardless of declining health during the past year or two, she courageously set out with her husband, two weeks ago, to drive to Texas to spend the winter months with her daughter and family, but a few days after arrival her illness became more acute, and despite every effort to bring recovery, she passed away quietly and peacefully early Monday morning, November 11, 1940, at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 4 days.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, her four children, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Spangenberger and Mrs. Anna Epperson, of Hutchinson, Ks., a large number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Although her health failed toward the end, her last myears were indeed happy ones. The devotion and congeniality that existed between her and her husband was a thing beautiful to see. She loved her home and her neighbors, and she was a devoted wife and mother.
Too much cannot be said of her beautiful character, for she was courageous, cheerful, and kind. Her going leaves many aching hearts that will sadly miss her.
Short services were held at the Puryear Mortuary Thursday afternoon wiqth Rev. C. W. Brewster officiating, followed by services in the Methodist Church in Delavan, assisted by Rev. Brewster. Interment was in the Delavan cemetery.
