U.S. Congressman. He was working as a blacksmith when he graduated from St. Louis University, in 1881, studied law at Washington University Missouri, was admitted to the bar in 1884 and commenced to practice law in St. Louis, Missouri. He was St. Louis City Attorney, (1886-94). In 1901, he presented credentials as a Democratic Member-elect to the Fifty-seventh Congress, serving until 1903 and was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-eighth Congress, serving until 1905. After his term, he was a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions, (1904, 08) and practiced law until his death at age 54.
