Zachariah Emery, a leading man of Townsend in town and church affairs, was one of the selectmen eight years, from 1754 to 1778. He was at the battle of Bunker Hill in Captain Hosley's company. He owned a large tract of land, situated about two miles south from where the meeting-house stood, on the Linenburg road, leading through South Row. This estate has remained in the Emery family to the present time
He married Esther Stevens 2 Dec 1741. Their marriage was attested by Phinehas Hemenway, Pastor of the Church in Townsend.
