William Henson was born in Kentucky and was reportedly raised in Missouri. He arrived in what is now Davis County, Iowa on 4 July 1840, and was the first white settler in Fabius Township. On 12 October 1843 he married Emily Johnson and they had 10 children: Baby Henson; Francis M. Henson; John H. Henson; William W. Henson; Mary Ellen Henson Kinsler; Sylvester Henson; Samuel E. Henson; Sarah E. Henson Burgher Stober; Male Henson; and Robert Lee Henson. William died in Fabius Township 1 December 1870 and is buried beside his wife in the Burgher Family Cemetery.
