ARTHUR AHLSWEDE

FOUR DAY OF ILLNESS FATAL TO A. AHLSWEDE

Well Known Young Man of City and Bridegroom of Year Passes Away This Morning

Uncertainty of life was demonstrated here this morning when Arthur Ahlswede 862
N. Ninth street, well known amateur ball player of this city and married only a
year, passed away at the Holy Family Hospital at 8 o'clock after an illness of
only 4 days. Death was due to a ruptured appendix which was discovered when the
young man was removed to the hospital for an operation on Monday.

Born in the town of Manitowoc Rapids on August 3, 1903, he was only 28 years old
at the time of his untimely death. He attended the schools of the city and
county, graduating from the high school in 1921 and later from the Manitowoc
County Rural Normal school.

He taught at Brotherton for two years and for the last six or seven years was
employed in the offices of the Chicago and North Western Railroad company of
this city.

During his residence in Manitowoc, he was widely known as a ball player of more
than usual ability and participated in amateur league games for several years.

Of an unusually pleasant disposition, "Art" Ahlswede was universally popular
with all with whom he came in contact and his unexpected passing will bring
sorrow in all circles where he was known.

Mr. Alswede was married only about a year ago, on September 17, 1930 to Stella
Krizanowski of Manitowoc Route 6. Immediately after their marriage the young
couple took up their home in Manitowoc.

Besides his young wife, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Ahlswede, and a brother Elmer, all of this city.

He had been about his usual duties during the past week but on Sunday complained
of feeling ill. It was first thought that he was suffering from a minor ailment
but when his condition did not improve he was removed to the hospital and an
operation resorted to in an effort to save his life.

The remains were removed to the Wattawa, Urbanek, and Schlei funeral home were
they may be viewed tomorrow afternoon, Sunday and up until the time of the
funeral at 2 o'clock Monday. The services will be held from the funeral home and
at Evergreen Cemetery where interment will take place, the Rev. D.G. Ristad
officiating at the last rites.
