Charles J. Cigna was born in Austria on November 22, 1858. He came to the United States at the age of 21 to live with a uncle in Seneca, Kansas, where he stayed for two years. From there he moved to Everest, Kansas. Here he conducted his first general store.
In 1887 he married Josephine Fischer of Seneca, Kansas. To this union was born five children, four living and one son who passed away at the age of 12.
He later moved with is family to Vliets, Kansas, where he was a merchant until his death on Thursday morning, November 15, 1923 at 3:15 a.m. He was 64 years 11 months and 24 days of age.
Funeral services were held at Annunciation Catholic Church in Frankfort, Kansas. Burial was in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Frankfort, Kansas.
He leaves to mourn his passing a widow, four grown children, and one brother, two sisters live in St. Joseph, Missouri and a younger sister and brother are still in Europe.
