James Eugene Jennings, 90, was born on September 6, 1920, to Theodore Jennings and Carrie Belle Litteral Jennings in Blevins, Texas. He was one of eight children. As a teenager, Jim hopped a freight to Denver, Colorado, where he worked as an aide in a hospital. As an Army medic in World War II, he met nurse Irene Cymbalisty. They married and moved to Oklahoma City, where they had two children, Daniel, who recently preceded Jim in death, and Deborah Shannon, now of Portland, Oregon. Using his GI benefits, Jim earned a degree in finance from Oklahoma City University. He took early retirement from his banking career to care for Irene, who died of lupus in 1990. In 1994 he married Robin Merrifield Jennings, the widow of a distant cousin. They made their home in Lakeside, California. Jim's son, Dan, died in Texas on September 10, 2010, after years of illness, and Robin died in a hospice in California one day later. On September 28, 2010, Jim died instantly in a car accident. He is deeply missed. Survivors include daughter, Deborah, and granddaughter, Libby Shannon, of Portland, Oregon; nieces and nephews, and the family of Robin Jennings, including Sherry and Brent Chaffin of El Cajon, California, and Steve Jennings of Spanaway, Washington. Interment and a memorial service for Jim and Dan will be 2 p.m., Saturday, October 9, at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N. Midwest Blvd., Oklahoma City.
