John WALKUSH, ag 53, a lifelong resident of Portage county, died suddenly Sunday morning at 1 o'clock at the family home at Whiting, following a heart attack.
Mr. WALKUSH was stricken at a family gathering being held at the WALKUSH home where a few friends were also present.Upon suffering this attack he fell to the floor and his death occurred about five minutes later.A doctor and city firemen were called to bring an inhalator.Mr. WALKUSH was pronounced dead upon their arrival and the inhalator was not used.Artificial respiration was administered.
Mr. WALKUSH's two daughters, Mrs. Garth WHITTAKER of Chicago and Mrs. Sheldon FRAKES of Milwaukee, and Mr. FRAKES and daughter, Audrey, were visiting at the WALKUSH home.Mr. and Mrs. WHITTAKER came two weeks ago and Mr. WHITTAKERreturned to Chicago a week ago Sunday.Mr. and Mrs. FRAKES have been here for the past week.A son, Leonard, of Milwaukee, arrived Sunday after learning of his father's death.
Mr. WALKUSH was born on August 2, 1888,in Torun, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph WALKUSH.He spent his youth in Torun and prior to entering the employ of the Whiting-Plover Paper company on August 2, 1911, he worked in lumber camps.He was chief color man and foreman for the past 17 years at the Whiting-Plover mill.
He was married to Clara SCHULTZ on October 18, 1910 at St. Casimir's Catholic church in Hull.The couple lived in Stevens Point until 1925 when they located to Whiting.
Surviving are his wife, 10 children, Edward and Ernest WALKUSH of Stevens Point, Mrs. Floyd ROBERTS of Laramie, Wyoming, Mrs. Vernon WATERHOUSE of Lakeview, Oregon, Mrs. FRAKES of Milwaukee, Mrs. WHITTAKER of Chicago, Leonard of Milwaukee and Elinor, Albert and Myron at home; three sisters, Mrs. August PIEKARSKI, Sr. of Junction City, Mrs. John HINTZ of the town of Dewey and Mrs. John HINTZ of Wausau, two brothers, Alex WALKUSH of Bevent and Frank WALKUSH of Dewey, and sereral step brothers and step sisters.
Mr. WALKUSH was a member of St. Johns court, Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Holy Name and St. Joseph's societies of St. Stanislaus' Catholic church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Stanislaus' church and burial will take place in Guardian Angel cemetery.The body is at the Prais funeral home where the rosary will be said tonight, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 8 o'clock.

Funeral of Mr. WALKUSH
St. Stanislaus' Catholic church was filled Thursday morning for the funeral of John WALKUSH, who died suddenly at his home at Whiting.Rev. Leo TROJANOWSKI officiated at a requiem high mass at 9 o'clock and burial followed in Guardian Angel cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were J. H. MILLER and A. J. SCHIERL.Active pallbearers were Albert W. TECH, Edward C. HORN, William C. HOPKINS, John TEPP, Sr., Harold R. CHAPMAN and Lamar A. MOSS.
Those from a distance who were here for the funeral included his daughter, Mrs. Floyd ROBERTS, and her son, John, of Laramie, Wyoming; his sons-in-law and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon FRAKES, and their daughter, Audrey, of Milwaukee, and Mr. and Mrs. Garth WHITTAKER of Chicago, and a son, Leonard WALKUSH of Milwaukee.Other relatives and friends came from Superior, Ashland, Watersmeet, Michigan, Chicago, Milwaukee, Ringle, Junction City, Wausau, Hatley and other nearby cities and towns.
