VICTOR "VIC" BUZEK HALLETTSVILLE - Victor "Vic" Buzek, 87, of Hallettsville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008. He was born on Dec. 23, 1920, in Moulton, to Frank and Mary Buzek. On Sept. 4, 1950, he married Leona Gerlich at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. Victor is survived by his wife, Leona Buzek of Hallettsville; and nine children, Kathleen Chovanetz and husband Mike, Betty Woytek and husband Harvey, Janie Wolf and husband David, Denise Pohl and husband Leslie, Melissa Leita and husband Ben, David Buzek and wife Alva, Joe Buzek and wife Diane, all of Hallettsville, Genevieve Carroll and husband Jamie of Victoria, and Gary Buzek and wife Jodie of Mansfield. He has 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Victor was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Judy Davis; and brothers, Louis, Frank, and Tommy Buzek. Vic served in the U.S. Navy for four years during WWII and made 11 trips across the ocean to serve his country. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, VFW, American Legion, and was a Disabled American Veteran. In his early years of marriage, he farmed, and in 1965 he became owner of Vic's Tavern, which he owned for 26 years, after retirement he managed the American Legion Hall for five years. Victor loved many things about life, some of his greatest past times were playing dominos, watching Houston Astros baseball, and having his children gathered for big family get-togethers. Some of his most cherished times spent were giving his grandchildren rides on the John Deere tractor. Victor was loved by so many and will be dearly missed. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 22, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church near Hallettsville, the Rev. John Peters officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers: sons-in-law, Mike Chovanetz, Harvey Woytek, David Wolf, Leslie Pohl, Jamie Carroll, and Ben Leita; and nephews, Eric Buzek and Ernest Buzek. Honorary pallbearers: George Cinadr, Howard McMillan, Ray Allen Williamson, Bob Pesek, Lado Hlavac, Gene Vasek, George Pesek, and Anton Bujnoch Sr. Memorials: Sacred Heart and St. Mary's Catholic Church and Hospice of South Texas. The family would like to give a very special thank you to all of his private sitters, Hospice and Williamsburg for their diligent care.
