Mrs. Clarence Abel, 55, of Rt. 4?, Manitowoc, died Sunday morning at Holy Family
Hospital, Manitowoc, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be at 1:30
p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc, the Rev. Gervase Zanotti
officiating, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. The former Elizabeth Fulton
Smith was born Aug, 10, 1902, in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids, daughter of the
late Philip and Alice Fulton Smith. Mrs. Abel attended and was graduated from
the old Washington High School and Manitowoc County Normal School, now Manitowoc
County Teachers College, Manitowoc. She taught schools in the county for several
years. Later she was graduated from Milwaukee State Teachers College and taught
in Rockwood State Graded School. Since 1936 she was associated with the Silver
Lake Service Store. In 1945 she was married to Clarence Abel of Brillion and the
couple resided in ..(almost two lines underinked)…at First Presbyterian Church
and was a member of the Beyer Circle of the church. Mrs. Abel was active in 4-H
club work in the county for many years and was a member of the Lakeshore
Writers, serving it as treasurer in 1955-56. Surviving are her husband, a
daughter, (private), and two brothers, Albert and Philip, of Rt. 1, Manitowoc.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, after 3 p.m.
Tuesday until 11 a.m. Wednesday when the casket will be moved to the church
where the body will lie in state until the hour of service.
