Thomas J. Hooker, 65, died at 1:57 p.m. Oct. 4, 2010, at his residence.

He was born May 22, 1945, in Lima to Raymond and Iona Bielefeld Hooker, who preceded him in death. On July 16, 1966, he married Joyce Shaw, who survives in Lima.

Mr. Hooker was a 1963 graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School. He played Midget football in his youth. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired in 2006 as a die cast operator from Honda, after 20 years, and had worked at Sheller Globe and Lima Register. He attended St. Charles Catholic Church. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and American Legion Post 96. He was an avid fan of the University of Michigan Wolverines and the Detroit Lions. He enjoyed cooking, golfing, fishing and corn hole games. He loved animals, especially Sassy. He played softball for Paddy Mac's.

Survivors also include a daughter, Sherry Wellman, of Lima; four brothers, Larry Hooker, Danny (Sue) Hooker, of Lima, Johnnie (Nita) Hooker, of Belle Center, and Donnie (Candy) Hooker, of Lima; two sisters, Arlene Prater and Lolyn (Bill) Griffin, of Lima; and three grandchildren, Ashley Wellman, Gage Henderson and Bridget Hooker.

He was preceded in death by a son, Anthony James Hooker, who died March 12, 2010; and four brothers, Eddie, Leonard, David and Jimmy Hooker.

Services will begin at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
