John Thomas Elgin, well-known native of Poolesville, died at his home there, Thursday night after a long illness, aged 83 years.

Leaving home before the turn of the century, with his brother Edward, he founded a highly successful cleaning and dyeing business in New York, catering almost exclusively to the theatrical trade.

He and his brother both retired in the early 1900s and returned to their native community where they purchased a farm and had resided up to the present.

Surviving are these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Mann, Mrs. Jessie V. Ritchey, Edward W. Elgin, Dr. Arthur G. Elgin, all of Poolesville.

Remains rest at the funeral home in Barnesville, where funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery, [Beallsville].

The family requests that flowers be omitted and instead that memorial contributions be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Poolesville. William B. Hilton, funeral director.
