The Montgomery County Sentinel, Dec. 20, 1872
Died, on the 9th instant, at the residence of his father, near Poolesville, after a lingering sad painful illness, GEORGE W. U. SMITH, Jr., in the 24th year of his age. Thus has been stricken down a young man possessed of many excellent qualities, and giving promise of a honorable powerful life. He will be sadly missed, not only by his devotedly attached family, but by the community in which he lived, and especially by the church of which for some time he had been a constant member. Sad however as is his loss, there is great comfort in the belief that he was not unprepared, and that death was to him “the gate of endless joy.”
Thank you~
