Francis Marion Merritt, the last child of Joseph and Mary A. Merritt, was born in Jackson county, Iowa, on March 20, 1857. He was never married, and his occupational status seemed to vary. A history of the town of Andrew lists Francis Marion Merritt as a mortician and furniture dealer in Andrew. The 1900 census lists Marion Merritt, brother of Absalom Merritt, as living with brother Absalom Merritt and working as a farm laborer. However he also ran a furniture business in the town of Andrew.

Francis Marion Merritt, 76, died at his home in Andrew, Wednesday at 2:30 a.m. following an extended illness.
Mr. Merritt, the youngest son of Joseph and Mary Merritt, was born March 20, 1857 in Andrew and had spent his entire life in that comminity, Since the death of his brother several years ago he operated a furniture store there and continued to reside with his sister-in-law, Mrs. Absalom D. Merritt.

Surviving are one brother, Charles E. Merritt of Ponca, Nebraska, his sister-in-law Mrs. A. D. Merritt, and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, one-half brother and a half-sister proceded him in death.
The funeral service will be held at one o'clock Friday at the Buchner chapel in Andrew and two o'clock at the Andrew Methodist church the Rev. A. Calkins officiating. Burial will be made in the Andrew cemetery. Theodore Irwin, John Irwin, Bert Irwin, Ansel Butterworth, Fred Schoaff and T. J. Van Meter will act as casket bearers.

We were unable to locate a grave maker for Francis Marion and the records are not complete for that cemetery.
