Private, Company C, 7th US Cavalry. Killed in action at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, along with General George A. Custer and most of the 7th Cavalry.

Enlisted on 3 October 1873, at age 25, in Boston, Massachusetts, by Lieutenant James Ropes, with a previous occupation as a watchmaker. He had brown eyes, black hair, a dark complexion, and was 5 feet, 8 1/2 inches tall. He was not married. Under the command of Captain Thomas Custer (George A. Custer's younger brother), he was killed with virtually the entire Company C near Last Stand Hill. His remains were originally buried on the battlefield where he fell, then later moved to the mass grave at the Battlefield Monument.
