Robert "Bob" Conrad Shindler, 87, passed away October 2, 2010, in Fredericksburg, Texas. He was born on July 24, 1923 in Nacogdoches, Texas.

He was preceded in death by this parents, Charles Shindler and Vera Shindler and a son, Ronald Lee Shindler.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Janet, a son, Robert C. Shindler, Jr and his wife, Judy, grandson, Patrick Shindler and his wife, Amber. Also, a brother, Raymond Shindler and his wife, Betty and an uncle, Ross Smelley. He enjoyed a close relationship with his sister-in-law, Gayle McCarron and her family.

In 1942 at the age of 17, Bob volunteered for basic training in the Army Air Corp. During World War II, he participated in the Salemo invasion and Sicily, Italy, as well as duty in northern Africa and Corsica, southern France. He was honorably discharged in 1945 receiving the EAME Campaign Medal with seven bronze stars and a Bronze Arrowhead.

After the war, Bob returned to Nacogdoches to complete his education at Stephen F. Austin State University. He graduated with a B.S. in mathematics and physics. He had a 25 year career with the Corpus Christi Independent School District as teacher at Miller High School and vocational consultant with the administration.

Bob had a passion for gardening and sharing his fruits and vegetables with friends and family. He will be remembered for his kind, fun- loving spirit, his love of gardening and the outdoors. He also had a unique ability to recall tales from a lifetime of memories.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi, Texas
