Joseph served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired in 1970 as a mail handler with the U.S. Postal Service. He received several awards from the postal service for beneficial suggestions. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Billy Simpson Post 470, and enjoyed fishing.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Samilio; and a sister, Theresa Samilio.
He is survived by two sisters, Dolores DiVecchio and Margaret Samilio, both of Erie, a brother, Coston "Jim" Samilio of Erie, and by several nieces and nephews.
