SPRINGFIELD - Payne E. L. Thomas, 82, of Springfield, formerly of Escondido, Calif., and Coral Gables, Fla., died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at St. John's Hospice.
He was born May 11, 1919, in Baltimore, Md., the son of Charles C. and Nanette Payne Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a book publisher and the former owner of Charles C. Thomas, Publisher. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and a former member of Island Bay Yacht Club, Riverside County Club, Coral Reef Yacht Club, Ocean Reef Club and Tavern Club.
Survivors: three sons, Michael P. Thomas of Springfield, John F. Thomas of Cleveland, Tenn., and Peter C. Thomas of Gainesville, Fla.; two daughters, LeAnne Kinkelaar and Jennifer N. Thomas, both of Santa Fe, N.M.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Remains were cremated.
Private family services: Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel.
