Jacob F. Vest, a highly respected farmer, living on the Goldstein farm, a couple of miles southeast of Shelbyville, passed away at his home at ten o'clock Monday night, after an illness of three weeks' duration. He had been bedfast about a week. Mr. Vest was born in Lawrence County, IN, Jan. 15, 1859. He was a son of James G. and Lavina Vest. He came to Shelby County when a young man and settled in Ash Grove township. He was united in marriage to Caroline Price on Oct. 8, 1885, and to this union two children were born – Louis Oral, who passed away in infancy and Miss Tisha Vest, at home. Besides his wife and daughter, Mrs. Vest leaves to mourn his demise, one half-brother, N. A. Lattimer of Humboldt, KS, and two sisters, Miss Fleta Vest and Mrs. Lida Rush of Chanute, KS. Mr. Vest was a highly respected man, a good and kind neighbor and was a friend to everybody. The Vest family had lived on the Goldstein farm for twenty-four years, and they have been royal entertainers, as the many people in Shelbyville who have partaken of the fine spreads at their country home can attest. Mr. Vest was a good Christian man, a member of the Christian Church of this city, from which place the services will be held on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. N.H. Robertson, the pastor, having charge of the services. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Shelbyville Democrat – 7 Mar 1924
