Survivors include his sister Velma Berning of Anna, brother and sister-in-law Leo and Diana Homan of Maria Stein, sister-in-law Lillian Homan of St. Marys, and brother-in-law Alvin Brown of New Bremen. He is also survived by fifty nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his siblings and in-laws: Maurice and Joann Homan, Arnold Homan, Harold and Rose Mary Homan, Dorothy and Anthony Brown, Ruth Brown, Joan Homan and Sylvester Berning.
Don was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen. He had belonged to the New Bremen Senior Citizens, the Mercer Co. Farm Bureau, Mercer Landmark and the Minster Farmers Co-op. Don was an avid card player and was always ready for a hand of Euchre or Rummy. He enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen with Rev. Tim Ralston and Rev. Mr. Martin Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Precious Blood Cemetery, Chickasaw.
Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and on Thursday from 9:30 until 10:00 A.M. at the church, at which time the rosary will be prayed.
