I'm so pleased to be able to add the following description of Roxy Chapman (my great-Aunt) presumably provided by a former student-- designated as a "Find A Grave vistor". My Thanks..

Miss Chapman was a teacher on staff at the then brand new building, housing The McKinley Elementary School in Joplin, Missouri She was employed there for many years. She served as a 4th Grade instructor during 'the middle of the 20th Century.' Her classroom was on the second floor, at the far North-Eastern corner of the blonde brick building. Her classroom had a wall of windows that looked out over the large playground and the sunshine through those windows offered early morning warmth; Being away from the harsh late day sun, she also enjoyed cool breezes in the afternoon through those same windows.
She was a rather 'angular built' woman with broad shoulders and a lanky body and beautiful posture. (A child notices such things when the person is standing in front of them all day, every day for a whole year!) Miss Chapman had the perfect figure to wear pretty dresses and look like a very stylish female. Her eyes were a very attractive blue and she had dark locks with hints of silver, worn short and curled, as was the style of the era.
Many of her former students have long adored her and not forgotten the joy of having spent a year under her guidence. This is a highly worthy blessing - that someone / Miss Chapman / would have lived a life where looooong after direct influence has passed, looooong after a person may have crossed-paths with young students, the children / now adults / still remember and greatly treasure their time with a such special teacher.
Miss Roxy Chapman lived in the North part of her community in a tall, dark red brick apartment building named: 'The Mayflower.' Her home was on the 4th floor; She shared the quarters with another teacher from the staff of East Junior High School, located there in Joplin. She never wed and although she had no children, she 'mothered and taught' hundreds of 'small people' during her career. This was a woman whose words and deeds have not been forgotten - by her own classrooms as well as others.
