He was a private in the War of 1812.
Between 1834 and July 24, 1878, he was a deacon of the Congregational Church of Deep River, CT.
He and Julia Pratt were married on Sep. 12, 1813 in Saybrook, Middlesex Co., CT.
They were the parents of six children: George Tiley Spencer, Julia Spencer, Richard Pratt Spencer, Julia Minerva Spencer, Jane Elizabeth Spencer, and Susan Augusta Spencer.

You mention that he was married in Saybrook Ct. If you are familiar with the area, or take a look at a map of CT you will find Old Saybrook at the west mouth of the Connecticut River. Originally all of the land including Saybrook Lyme, Old Lyme, Westbrook, Chester, Essex and Deep River were Saybrook.
Those towns broke off but, Deep River retained the legal name of Saybrook until 1947. However it was known locally as Deep River. Given the time frame, most likely the Spencer's were actually married in Deep River
