Professional Boxer Referee. He was a former boxer, but he is most know as the boxing referee who officiating many World Championship fights including Heavyweight Championship matches between Floyd Patterson and Jimmy Ellis in 1968, Larry Holmes and Mike Weaver in 1979, and the second fight between George Foreman and Joe Frazier in 1976. A part time actor, he also appeared as the referee in the first boxing scene in the movie "Raging Bull". During his boxing days, he fought in the Golden Gloves as an amateur and professionally at Madison Square Garden, Sunnyside Garden, New York Coliseum, Broadway Arena, St. Nicholas Palace and the Hippodrome to name a few. In 1963, he was the first referee to officiate in eight professional fights in one day. He became a world-world accredited referee taking fights in Australia, Malaysia, Japan and Italy. He was inducted into the New Jersey Hall in 2005. His birth name was Harold Valandkvalan.
