R. Preston was buried in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo. Section 40, Site 12515A. He had a short life, left a young 26 year old wife Delia and 4 small children ranging from 8 years to a 9 month old baby. It was the height of the Great Depression. Delia was unable to take care of the children, and they were placed in the Protestant Orphans Home in Webster Groves, MO. They were not placed up for adoption. Delia eventually remarried, and the children were then adopted by their step father Alfred Winkler.
