Ralph Laurance Cook, 88, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

He was born May 16, 1922, south of Dodge City, to James Marvin Cook Sr. and Mary Mildred Whittaker Cook.

After serving in the U.S. Marines during World War II, Mr. Cook began farming. He farmed for many years in Hamilton and Stanton counties and sold seed for DeKalb.

On May 1, 1946, he married Edna Belle Davis in Syracuse. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Rick Cook of Canon City, Colo., and Grady Cook of Syracuse; two daughters, Leann Cook of Pratt, and Jody Schone of Topeka; three brothers, James Cook Jr. of Eads, Colo., Lloyd Cook of Live Oak, Fla., and Gary Cook of Arkansas City; a sister, Alice Crowe of Winfield; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arthur, Vernon and Eldon Cook; and five sisters, Opal Coon, Isabel Grolbert, Eunice Ayearst, Ruth Kress and Kathleen Malone.

Funeral was at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses. Military graveside services were at Ulysses Cemetery.
