She was born Dec. 28, 1950, in Tampa, Fla. to Gaston and Zona (Miller) Alford. She attended Burkburnett High School in Burkburnett, Texas, Texas Tech and the University of North Texas where she received a bachelors of science degree. She worked as an elementary school teacher. She married Jerry Lanier in 1980.
She was a member of the Alpha Mother's Club, Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, President Junior Service League, Chairman of First Christian Church Child Development Center and Preschool and Quarterback Club of Shawnee High School.
She made frequent trips to Dallas to visit children and grandchildren, theater trips to New York City, trips to New Orleans, fall foliage trips to Maine, she loved yard gardening, shopping with her daughter, multiple family inclusive vacations and attending her granddaughter and grandson's sports and other activities.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, David Alford.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry L. Lanier of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Melissa Lanier of Forney, Texas; daughter, Lori Lanier of Dallas; mother-in-law, Lois Lanier of Shawnee; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Bernadette Alford of Farmingham, Mass.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lonnie and Ann McDonald of Shawnee; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Brig. Gen. (retired) Ben and Linda Robinson of Edmond; grandchildren, Jake and Lizzie Lanier of Forney; six nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2pm, Thurs, Sept 23, 2010, at First Christian Church with the Rev. Ray Belford officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Walker Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas or the Gladney Center for Adoption in Ft. Worth, Texas. The casket will not be opened at the funeral home or at the services.
