In Nov 1810, Solomon and his wife, Sarah, migrated on a flatboat down the Ohio River with the first 3 of their 6 children - Sylvester-5 yrs old, William-3 yrs old and Ester-1 yr old. They disembarked at Cooper's Ferry, near Madison. They were first white settlers of Jennings Co. (their farm on Coffee Creek was actually included in Clark Co at the time). Sarah was pregnant with Joshua during the flatboat trip. 4 Jun 1811, Sarah gives birth to Joshua. He is said to be the first white child born in Jennings County, Indiana.
On 15 May 1830, Joshua married Nancy L "Polly" Woodruff in Jennings County, Indiana. They had 3 children: Emily 1831-1900, Sarah "Sally" Ann 1833-1871 and Levin W 1835-1913. Polly died on 25 Apr 1837 leaving Joshua with the 3 small children.
Joshua remarried on 9 Jul 1837 to Lucinda Rowland, daughter of Isaac Rowland. Lucinda raised Joshua's three children from his first marriage. They had 5 children of their own: Celestine 1838-1838, Thomas R 1839-1873, James W 1842-1888, Caroline 1845-1900 and Euzetta M 1851-1905.
