Funeral for James. W. "Chick" Sparkman, 75, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Brooks Barkley officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Sparkman died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Jan. 27, 1925, to Tennis and Annis Sparkman. He attended Southside Baptist Church, played baseball with American Legion Post 15 and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years of service as a carrier, and also worked part-time for the city of Decatur sign shop.

He is survived by his wife, Harriett C. Sparkman; three sisters, Ruth Butler, Margaret Pressnell and Mildred Stephenson, all of Decatur; and one brother, Billy Sparkman of Tuscaloosa.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
