Writer for many television series including Bonanza, National Velvet, 87th Precinct, Days of Our Lives and others. An orphan she was placed on the doorstep of her adoptive parents by a physician that would place infants of unwed mother's with prospective parents. She was the recipient of several awards including an Emmy for writing the libretto for The Trial of Mary Lincoln in 1972. She never married perhaps because of her interesting view on what made a good writer. When interviewed in 1953, she said, "There is one important requirement that applies to most professional writers. Whether you like it or not: Live Alone." She practiced this until death and on her gravestone are the words "Live Alone"
