HARRIET ANDERSON GAREY

Died – At her residence in the village of Stockbridge, Calumet county,
Wisconsin on the 9th inst., Mrs. Harriet Anderson Garrey(sic), wife of
Dr. J. E. Garrey, aged 32 years and 11 months. The deceased was born at
Paisley, Scotland, and came with her parents to the U.S., in 1852, and
settled at Manitowoc, where she remained until married to Dr. John E.
Garrey, Oct. 18th, 1871, exception the extended visits she made to her
uncle Rev. Walter McFarlane. With her husband she removed to Stockbridge
in the spring of 1878. She was widely known among the old settlers of
Manitowoc and this county who loved and respected her for her amiable
disposition, her Christian deportment as well as for the noble manner
in which she discharged the duties of daughter, wife, sister, friend
and neighbor, all of whom regret her early call Home. Besides her
husband and two children – both boys, one aged 7 and the other aged 5
years – she leaves a large circle of mourning relatives and friends.
The remains were taken to Manitowoc for burial on Saturday. The funeral
services took place at the Presbyterian Church, in that city on Sunday
in the presence of a large congregation who assembled to pay their last
tribute of respect to the remains of the dear departed.
