"S. L. Davis
DIED – On Sunday, March 17, 1912, Mr. S J Davis of pneumonia, aged 75 years and 8 months.
Mr. Davis was born at Portage, Ohio; later he removed with his parents to Garden Grove, Iowa. After his father's death he lived in the vicinity of Nebraska City and at other places in Iowa. Finally in the spring of 1883 he landed in Colorado and located on Pass Creek with his son O. T. Davis, where he lived until some thirteen years ago, when he removed to La Veta.
Mr. Davis was a remarkably active man for his age and was always busy at some useful work. A few months ago he was injured by the fall of a tree and was just beginning to hobble around when the fatal disease overtook him. Funeral services were held at the house on Monday, Rev. L. D. Jarrard conducting the services; burial occurred in the La Veta cemetery. A loving wife, his partner for many years and two sons survive him; all of whom have the sympathy of this community. Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Davis and Miss Mabel were with the deceased during his last hours and the bereaved wife accompanied her son to his home in Alamosa. – La Veta Advertiser."
