Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Graduated from the USMA in 1860. An artillery officer, he was posted to the 1st Missouri Volunteer Light Artillery after the start of the Civil War. He was then promoted to Captain in the 1st United States Regular Artillery before being transferred to the Volunteer Cavalry Service. He served as Colonel and commander of the 2nd New York Volunteer Cavalry regiment until the end of the War. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on June 24, 1865 for "meritorious services during the war". He remained in the Regular Army after the end of the conflict, dying in California in 1887 at the rank of Major.
