Thomas W. Carman, of Snowflake, died May 23, 2007. He was 58 years old.

He was the proud papa of six granddaughters, Stephanie, Jennifer, Vanessa, Melanie, Presley and Megan. Tom moved with his family to Snowflake in 1993 after he retired from the U.S. Navy. He served his country for 24 years. He joined the Navy in 1965 in Albuquerque, N.M., and served on his first ship with his brother James in Long Beach, Calif. Tom worked his way up through the ranks (Mustang), joining as an enlisted man and retiring as an officer with the rank of full lieutenant.

While serving in the U.S. Navy, Tom was decorated with seven Vietnam Service Metals with one Silver Star and two Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Metal with 1960 Device, Vietnam Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Expeditionary Metal, Navy Commendation Metal with Silver Star, Navy Achievement Metal, National Defense Metal, Good Conduct Metal and Expert Pistol and Rifle with Silver Stars.

Tom was well respected as an officer and leader of his men. After retiring from the Navy, Tom worked as a salesman in the mobile home business for a few years where he won awards for record sales. Tom started his own business, The Cart Barn, in 1998. He was very proud of his business and was as fond of his customers as they were of him. He sold the business in June of 2006 because of health reasons. That was one of the saddest days of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Karen Carman of Snowflake; his son, Shawn Carman of Queen Creek; daughters Nancy Carman of Snowflake and Jenna Carman of Show Low. He is also survived by three brothers, Richard Huntley of Luling, Texas, Allen Carmen of Lodi, N.J., and James Carmen of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and three sisters, Joan Beam of Mo., Pat Poling of Hampton, Iowa, and Marilyn Carman of Albuquerque, N.M.

Tom was cremated in Phoenix. Services will be held at Trout Funeral Home, Saturday, June 16, at 10 a.m., in Ponca City, Okla.

His remains will be buried at Longwood Cemetery in Ponca City following the service. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
