!Elizabeth married Elisha Bailey, March 3, 1794, in Lancaster Co., PA, and gave birth to three sons and one daughter. In 1800 they moved to Mifflin Co., PA, where Elisha died in 1808 leaving Elizabeth a widow after 14 years of marriage and the chore of raising four children alone from the ages of 13 years on down. Although in limited circumstances, his mother, Elizabeth Scott Bailey, kept the family together until they reached the years of maturity. During this time they had removed to Kishacoquillas, where Thomas and his brother James, stuggled to keep the family together. Elizabeth kept her children in school all the time they could be spared from their work on the farm. Therefore, they helped earn their living and at the same time acquired a good education in the common schools of the time.
