William Abbott was the youngest of five children known to be born to Leroy Abbott and Anne (Edge) Abbott. In his brief 11.5 years of life, William appears to have lived in several states. He was born in Harmar, Washington County, Ohio on November 15, 1874, was living in Wyandotte, Wayne County, Michigan (where his father worked in an iron mill) at the time of the 1880 US Census, then drowned in the Watonwan River about June 14, 1886 at Madelia, Watonwan County in southern Minnesota. He is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Madelia, and his inscription appears on the Abbott family monument, along with that of his father Leroy Abbott, who died a year earlier.
