Trumpeter, Company I, 7th US Cavalry. Killed in action with General George Custer and most of the 7th Cavalry at the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

He was enlisted on 21 October 1872, age 21, into the 7th Cavalry, listing his previous occupation as a clerk. He was 5 feet, 3 1/2 inches tall, and had brown eyes, brown hair, and a ruddy complexion. During the Battle of the Little Big Horn, he was with Captain Keogh's I Company, and was killed during the battle. Originally buried on the battlefield, as was the custom in those days, his remains were later moved to the mass grave marked by the Battlefield Monument.
