Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was married June 2, 1934 to Marcella Clara Rose at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Later they transferred to St Paul's Lutheran Church where they raised the family. They had 8 children: Robert, Gerald, Donald, Carole, Sandra, Charles, Donna and Richard. Charles worked in sheet metal layout at International Harvester Corporation in New Haven, IN. Charles and Marcella moved with daughter Donna Sue to Tuscaloosa, Alabama where they remained until their death.
