Obituary from Horton Headlight, Horton, Kansas, April 27, 1911

Elizabeth P. Greer was born June 21, 1826, and died at the home of her son John Greer, April 21, 1911, age 84 years and 10 months. Grndma Greer's maiden name was Elizabeth P. Jones and on October 26, 1945, she was married to James Greer in the state of Missouri. To this union were born eight children-five boys and 3 girls. One boy died in infancy, and one son, Thomas, died at about 30 years of age. Three boys and three girls, also 42 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild together with a large number of relatives and friends remain to mourn the oss of a kind and loving mother.

After their marriage they lived in Missouri about 25 years and moved to Brown county, Kansas, in the spring of 1870. James Greer, the husband of the deceased, died Feb 8, 1873. Since the death of her husband,Grandma Greer has made her home principally with her children. She was a very affectionate and kind mother and the many sorrowing hearts witness to the deep love and attachment and the high regard with which she was held. She was an especial lover of the Bible. It was her constand companion, and that which is the highest enjoyment to a person is a sure index to the character. Just a short time before her death, she stated she had read the Bible through 14 times. She was baptized in infancy. She was possessed of a remarkable memory and could quote passage after passage of Scripture and state where the same was found.

Grandma Greer was feeble in health for sometime previous to her departure and death came peaceably. We trust her kindness and worth will inspire many to higher and nobler aims and may God comfort and bless the many sorrowing hearts.

Funeral services were held at the home of her son John Greer, Sunday, April 23, at 11 a.m. by Rev. E.A. cook of the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Willis. Internment was made in the Kimberlin cemetery north of Everest.
